2023 Mercedes-AMG G63 4x4 Squared breaks cover as the big brother of the regular G-Wagen
The most extreme four-wheeled version of Mercedes-renowned AMG's G-Wagen off-roader ever, the 2023 Mercedes-AMG G63 4x4 Squared, has been revealed.
The new G63 4x4 Squared expands on the 'standard' Mercedes-AMG G63 with an overhaul geared for optimum off-road prowess, coupled with a dash of elegance. It is the successor of the G500 4x4 Squared from 2015. The powertrain remains unchanged, with a 4.0-litre bi-turbo AMG V8 engine producing 585PS and 850Nm and mated to a 9-speed automated transmission.
The front and rear portal axles (with independent suspension) are the highlight of the upgrades, as they lift the axles above the centre of the wheels and link them with gear sets, allowing for improved ground clearance and the use of larger wheels and tyres.
Ground clearance is increased by 113mm over the basic G Class thanks to an all-new suspension and axle configuration. The attack angle has been extended to 45 degrees and the water-wading depth has been increased to 910mm.
While it's touted as a serious off-roader, it comes standard with 22-inch machined alloy wheels encased in thick off-road rubber. Additional LED lighting on the top and carbon fibre splashes on numerous locations, including the tire arches and spare wheel cover, are other noticeable features.
Buyers may also pick between 40 exterior colours, including a matte Green Hell magno inspired by the AMG GT R supercar and named after Germany's Nurburgring track.
On the inside, the 2023 Mercedes-AMG G63 4x4 Squared is quite similar to its younger sibling thanks to dual 12.3-inch screens that include a digital driver's display and a touchscreen infotainment system. Nappa leather seats, a starting screen animation created just for this SUV, carbon fibre trimmings, and a digital IRVM are all included in the G63 4x4 Squared.
The launch date and manufacturing numbers for the Mercedes-AMG G63 4x4 Squared have yet to be revealed, but it will only be available for a limited offer.
