2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC makes global debut with 3 plug-in hybrid powertrains

The 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC has been formally unveiled by the German automaker and from the looks of it, we anticipate it will inherit plenty of details and features from the newly debuted Mercedes-Benz C-class.

Since the first iteration of the luxury SUV was introduced in 2015, the Mercedes-Benz GLC has become one of the company's best selling vehicles. The new GLC is somewhat bigger in size, has a more luxurious interior, and comes with a new engine lineup that includes three new plug-in hybrid drivetrains that are all said to have an electric range of over 100 km.

2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC: Design and Dimensions

Sleeker headlamps, a single metal strip across the front grille and slimmer tail lamps are the most noticeable design modifications for the 2023 GLC. Apart from them, the difference between the 2023 model and the current one is negligible.

The new vehicle will be available in two body types, as before: the GLC SUV and a replacement for the sporty Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe, which will be released in 2023

Although it shares the same basis as its sedan sister, the C-Class, the GLC has grown in size. The new GLC has a length of 4,716 mm, a width of 1,890 mm and a height of 1,640 mm, with a wheelbase of 2,888 mm. This has resulted in more shoulder, head, and knee room inside the vehicle, as well as a larger boot.

2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC: Powertrains

Both the GLC200 and GLC300 models use a mild-hybrid version of Mercedes-Benz's turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine, which produces 204PS and 320 Nm in the former and 258PS and 400 Nm in the latter; both also gain an extra 23PS from a 48V integrated starting motor. Meanwhile, the GLC220d is equipped with the new turbocharged 2.0-litre diesel engine, which produces 197PS and 440 Nm while sharing the same integrated starting motor as its petrol counterparts.

Three additional standard plug-in hybrid drivetrains are also available for the second-generation GLC. The petrol-electric GLC300e and GLC400e share the same petrol engines but with a 1 A 136PS electric motor placed in the gearbox to boost the GLC300e's power to 313PS and 550 Nm, while the GLC400e's output jumps to 381PS and 650Nm.

The plug-in hybrids have a 31.2kWh battery pack and a pure electric range of 105-120km in the GLC300e and GLC400e and 102-117km in the GLC300de. An AC system can charge up to 11kW, whereas a DC system can charge up to 60kW. The GLC300de gets the same treatment for the diesel engine and rings the total output to 335PS and 750Nm.

2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC: Interiors and Safety

The GLC is the most recent example. More specifically, the SUV's entirely redesigned interior has a new MBUX system that includes a 12.3-inch driver display and an 11.9-inch centre information hub with a portrait orientation and fingerprint verification. Newly designed seats, a revamped steering wheel, and new C-Class style air-conditioning vents are among the other interior elements. Mercedes, on the other hand, has removed the trackpad and buttons from the centre console, replacing them with cubby holders and a wireless charging pad.

A 4Matic all-wheel-drive system, 64-color ambient lighting, multi-zone climate control, high-performance LED headlights, upgraded ADAS, and a panoramic sunroof are among the new features available on the GLC. Also available as an option is an Engineering Package that includes airmatic air suspension and rear-axle steering. The use of progressive digital headlights is also a possibility. In addition, with the 360-degree camera arrangement, the off-road mode enables the 'transparent bonnet' capability. The infotainment system displays a live video from beneath the vehicle's front bumper.

The 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC will surely make its way to India later this year.
