2024 Toyota Hilux facelift gets cosmetic changes and mild-hybrid system
Toyota's popular Hilux has been updated for 2024. This yet another facelift to the eighth-generation pickup brings 48V mild-hybrid assistance, a redesigned face, and a handful of additional features. Alongside the Hilux, Toyota has also updated its market-specific vehicles, such as the Yaris Cross, Yaris hatchback, and RAV4, among others.
The most significant update to the 2024 Hilux comes in the form of a 48 volt mild-hybrid functionality. This system comes mated to the 2.8-litre, inline four-cylinder turbocharged engine. This motor makes 204PS and 420Nm of torque (500Nm with automatic). As claimed, the mild-hybrid technology improves smoothness and fuel economy of the engine by about 6-10 per cent depending on the trim as against the current-gen Hilux. This mid-hybrid setup comprises a belt-driven electric generator, a small battery pack, a DC/DC convertor, which enables the engine start/stop system.
Having said that, the brand has not disclosed the power output figures of the electric motor that provide a brief power boost to the engine. The Europe-spec model, however, benefits from 16PS and 65Nm of torque. Meanwhile, there is a Multi-Terrain Select, offering six selectable drive modes

Unlike the Europe- and Japan-spec 2024 Toyota Hilux, the Australia-spec 2024 model features a redesigned front end, including a new grille and a bumper. Whereas, the tailgate now comes equipped with a damper. Apart from that, the pickup carries over the rest of the design as its predecessor. Inside, Toyota offers a wireless charging pad and two USB Type-C port in the rear.
