2025 BMW M2 breaks cover
German luxury auto major BMW has unveiled the refreshed M2, bringing in more power, subtle design updates inside and out, latest iteration of the BMW OS, and additional features. The brand will produce the updated M2 alongside the updated 2 Series Coupe at the BMW Group Plant San Luis Potosà in Mexico. It will go on sale worldwide in a phase manner starting from August 2024.
Front and centre of this fresh round of updates to the M2 is the 20PS added to its total output: the upgraded 3.0-litre six-cylinder twin-turbo petrol engine now tops out at 480PS at 6,250rpm, with revs topping out at 7,200rpm and a peak torque of 550Nm between 2,650rpm and 6,130rpm in its manual variant and 600Nm with the eight-speed M Steptronic transmission.
To take advantage of the higher power output, BMW has made improvements to "the accelerator mapping and response in all the drive modes selectable via the M Setup menu. As a result, the new BMWÂ M2 offers noticeably more rapid reactions to the driver's requests for acceleration".
The refreshed M2 can go from zero to 100kmph (62 mph) in just 4.0 seconds with the standard transmission or 4.2 seconds with the manual gearbox. It provides a top speed of 250kmph (155 mph), which can be increased to 285kmph (177 mph) with the optional M Driver's Package.
Updated BMW M2: DesignThe refreshed BMW M2 carries over its design except for a handful of changes and among them are M2 badge and exhaust tips finished in black. The standard M light-alloy wheels remain the same as before: 19 inches at the front and 20 inches at the rear. But they now get a new design. An optional carbon fibre roof is available and it can reduce the overall weight by 6kg and also improve the centre of gravity.
Meanwhile, customers can choose from three solid colours, five metallic shades, and six BMW Individual paint schemes. New colours include Sao Paulo Yellow solid, Fire Red metallic, Portimao Blue metallic, and skyscraper Grey metallic, along with four special shades: Java Green, Voodoo Blue, Grigio Telesto, and Twilight Purple.
Inside, BMW has given it a subtle design update with a new steering wheel that has the 12 o'clock mark, fewer switches on the centre console, and remade air-con vents. While the standard interior trim is Dark Graphite matt, Aluminium Rhombicle Anthracite, M Carbon Fibre, and a new Fine Brushed Aluminium trims are available as optional extras. Further, the BMW Curved Display - with a 12.3-inch driver screen and a 14.9-inch central information hub - now features BMW OS 8.5, allowing users access various controls and menus via the touchscreen.
The optional M Sport seats in Vernasca leather are now available in a red and black theme. The MÂ carbon bucket seats can also be purchased separately.
Updated BMW M2: FeaturesThe standard features for the refreshed M2 include a three-zone temperature control, ambient lighting, a wireless charging pad, BMW Live Cockpit Plus with a BMW Maps navigation system, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Safety equipment includes front collision warning, Cruise Control with brake function, Speed Limit Info function with no-overtaking indicator, Lane Departure Warning, and parking sensors at both ends.
BMW also offers a range of optional features, such as driving assistant, active cruise control with Stop&Go function, parking assistant with reversing assistant, comfort access, a sunroof, and a Harman Kardon Surround sound system, among others.
