3 new Honda models to be launched in India by 2026; CR-V and Accord on the cards?
Honda Cars India just launched the new Amaze sedan at an introductory price of Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom). Honda now offers the Amaze, City and Elevate in India, with the City demanding a facelift maybe in the second half of 2025. During the presentation, the brand also mentioned that the new models will be added to the brand India portfolio by FY 2026-27 and that Honda will focus on three different powertrains - ICE (petrol), Hybrid and EV.
Honda has been enjoying a pretty decent stint in India with the City sedan cementing its place as one of the best-selling sedans in the country and has done so for over 20 years. The City was first launched in India in 1998 and has by far been the brand's most successful car in India, with the model name almost being synonymous with the brand. The Amaze came along in 2013 and has just entered its third generation. The Honda Elevate is the latest nameplate and only came in September 2023.
Along its extremely long journey in India, Honda also had cars like the CR-V, Accord and Civic in its portfolio. All these cars first came to India nearly 2 decades ago and Honda kept updating their generations too, but not very consistently. Their lofty price tags didn't make these cars the most sought-after vehicles and Honda phased them out completely somewhere around 2020.
Now, with Honda stating that they will be bringing 3 new cars to the market, we can't help but believe that it would be these 3 forgotten models. The Civic, Accord and CR-V are still on sale in international markets and it's safe to say that they are doing quite well as they are offered in multiple powertrains.
The CR-V might just be the most likeliest of the 3 with SUVs so much in demand. The CR-V will sit above the Elevate if it steps foot in India. Globally, the SUV is offered with a 1.5-litre or 2.0-litre petrol engine. Customers also get to choose from 2WD and AWD configurations as well as a plug-in hybrid model. The CR-V could be a promising SUV for Honda in the Indian market as other vehicles that it would possibly compete with like the Skoda Kodiaq, Hyundai Tucson, Jeep Meridian and so on are doing relatively well.
The Civic and Accord could also be in the pipeline. The Civic is globally available with just a 2.0-litre petrol powertrain, while the Accord is available with 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre engines. Both are available as hybrids as well. If these 2 cars do come to India, it would be interesting to see which powertrains will be offered.
