All-electric Kia Carens set to arrive in 2025: What should you expect?
Kia Motors recently held its 2024 Investor Day meeting in South Korea, revealing plans for the company's future in the electric vehicle (EV) market. A key highlight of the event was the announcement of three new EVs slated for the Indian market, including an all-electric version of the Carens MPV. The Carens EV will mark a major expansion of Kia's EV offerings in the country, where currently it offers the EV6 and is planning to introduce the EV9 SUV later this year.
Kia's Electric Vehicle ExpansionKia's product roadmap unveiled its intentions to focus on affordable electric cars and hybrid vehicles in the coming years. The Korean automaker aims to expand its EV sales globally with a range of low-cost electric models, including the EV2, EV3, EV4, and EV5. It also plans to expand its EV line-up to 15 models by 2027, with a target of selling 1.6 million electric cars by the end of the decade.
For international markets, the new EV3, a compact electric SUV, is slated for launch this year. Next year, Kia plans to follow up with the launch of the EV4, an entry-level electric sedan. In fact, the EV2, EV3, EV4, and EV5 will be introduced in major global markets, such as the United States, Europe, and South Korea.
Kia Carens EV in IndiaAs a part of its plans for the emerging markets, such as India, the Kia Carens is likely to lead the way of its region-specific vehicles. The Carens EV will be one of the 15 EVs Kia will introduce globally by 2027. Although the details about the electric Carens are scarce, we expect the launch to take place in early 2025.
The seven-seater MPV, in its electric version, could get a battery pack of 70-90kWh capacity with a range up to 550-600km. It could support 80-100kW DC charging and up to 11kW AC charging. A single-motor setup is likely to be on the cards.
Kia's upcoming Carens may come with a fresh look, following the design language of the brand's other EV models. The interior is also expected to receive a revamp compared to the on-sale Carens. Expect the features on the Carens EV to be similar to the current Kia offerings, but Kia might surprise with additional features.
