All-new BMW M 1000 XR: Top highlights
German motorcycle manufacturer BMW Motorrad has officially introduced the all-new M 1000 XR, its third M model following the M 1000 RR and M 1000 R. The M 1000 XR is hailed as the most potent crossover motorcycle to date, boasting a more powerful engine, numerous M components, lightweight parts, advanced electronics, and the signature M livery.
In terms of design, while the all-new BMW M 1000 XR shares a resemblance with the standard S 1000 XR, it presents a more aggressive and sportier appearance. It is worth noting that BMW has also updated the S 1000 XR for the 2024 model year. The M 1000 XR features newly designed M winglets aimed at enhancing high-speed stability. Other design highlights encompass split LED headlights with integrated daytime running lights inspired by the flagship model, bar-end mirrors, a smoked windscreen, and two new paint schemes, Blackstorm Metallic and Light White.
For those seeking even more in the design department, BMW offers the M Competition Package. This package includes a range of M parts, such as carbon wheels, a rear wheel cover with an integrated chain guard, side panels, a front wheel cover, inner cover, and ignition cover. Riders can also enjoy adjustable foot pegs for both the rider and pillion.
BMW M 1000 XR: Engine and Performance
Powering the all-new M 1000 XR is a 999cc inline four-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that churns out an impressive 201hp (31hp more than the S 1000 XR) at 12,750rpm and 113Nm of torque at 11,000rpm, with a rev limit of 14,600rpm. This potent motor is paired with a six-speed gearbox. BMW has further fine-tuned the gear ratios and equipped it with a larger 47 teeth sprocket as opposed to the 45 teeth unit on the S 1000 XR. This results in blistering acceleration, allowing the M 1000 XR to reach 100kmph from a standstill in just 3.2 seconds and 200kmph in 7.4 seconds. The motorcycle boasts a top speed of 280kmph.
BMW M 1000 XR: Features and SpecificationsThe M 1000 XR tips the scales at 223kg (DIN empty), but opting for the M Competition package shaves off 3kg from its weight. The seat height stands at 850mm, which can be adjusted with the M Competition package to either 820mm or 870mm.
BMW equips the M 1000 XR with a titanium silencer featuring a carbon fibre cap, five riding modes (Race, Road, Rain, Dynamic, and Race Pro 1-3), a bi-directional quickshifter, new-gen traction control, TPMS, wheelie control, heated grips, adaptive headlights, shift assistant pro, pit lane limiter, launch control, ABS, slide control, USB charging socket, automatic hill start control, and dynamic brake control.
The suspension consists of fully adjustable 45mm upside-down front forks and a monoshock, while the braking duties are performed by dual 320mm discs at the front and a single 265mm disc at the rear. The aluminum forged wheels are wrapped in 120/70 ZR17 front and 200/55 ZR17 rear tires.
