All-new Mercedes-Benz GLC spotted in India ahead of its debut
The new generation Mercedes-Benz GLC has been spotted in India for the first time. As a matter of fact, it is sort of a teaser from the brand as the India debut of the all-new SUV is just a short few weeks away. Interestingly, Mercedes has wrapped the India-bound GLC in a starry camouflage. That said, the second generation update has brought a raft of changes to the best-seller of the firm, such as a new design inside and out, upgraded features, new MBUX, and a touch of electrification.
In some western markets, Mercedes-Benz offers the all-new GLC with three plug-in hybrid powertrains, namely GLC 300e, GLC 400e, and GLC 300de. The PHEV versions now have an improved EV-only range of up to 100km with a top speed of 140kmph. Also, there are three ICE powertrains with mild hybrid functionality, such as GLC 200, GLC 300, and GLC 220d. The India-spec model is likely to be available with GLC 200/300 and GLC 220d trims. Notably, Mercedes' 4Matic all-wheel drive system is now available across the board.
New Mercedes-Benz GLC: DimensionsThe new GLC is 4,716mm long, which is 60mm longer than the previous model, while the width is 2,075mm. However, the SUV is 4mm shorter than its predecessor at 1,640mm tall. With an increased wheelbase by 15mm, its wheelbase now stands at 2,888mm. Meanwhile, the front and rear track widths are also increased by 6mm and 23mm, respectively.
New Mercedes-Benz GLC: Design and Interior
The modern and sporty design language provides the new GLC an imposing stance. It stands out with the new wider grille, angular headlights, eye-brow style daytime driving lights, new door-mounted ORVMs, sporty front and rear bumpers, triangular taillamps with connecting strip, and new set of alloy wheels.
On the inside, the new GLC features an overhauled interior. It comes with new generation MBUX setup comprising a 12.3-inch driver display and a tablet-style 11.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with biometric authentication. On top of that, there are new seats, new C-Class-inspired air con vents, and a new steering wheel. Like the flagship S-Class and C-Class, GLC has rid off the good old MBUX trackpad and switches. Mercedes has replaced that with a wireless charging pad and cubby holders.
New Mercedes-Benz GLC: Features and equipment
Mercedes has outfitted the new-gen GLC with a range of features, such as, an off-road mode with 'transparent bonnet' function. This uses the 360deg camera to show the live-feed of the ground view on the infotainment system. Other features include LED headlamps, a panoramic sunroof, multi-zone climate control, 64 colours ambient lighting, improved Advanced driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), Burmester surround system, a heads-up display, and gesture control, among others. Mercedes also offers engineering package that consists of airmatic air suspension and rear-axle steering as an optional extra. The optional progressive digital headlamps are also available. The India-spec model could get more or less the same features.
