Ather 450S receives drastic price cut, now available at Rs 1.09 lakh

Bangalore-based Ather Energy has announced a massive price cut of Rs 20,000 for its entry-level 450S electric scooter. Thus, the new price of the 450S stands at Rs 1,09,000 (ex-showroom, Bangalore). Interestingly, the e-scooter now costs Rs 97,500 (ex-showroom) in Delhi. The price has been slashed to make the electric scooter more accessible to new customers, especially buyers of tier-2 and 3 cities, the company stated.

With this, the Ather 450S has become more affordable than its rivals, such as the Ola S1 Air (Rs 1.20 lakh), Simple Dot One (Rs 1.40 lakh), 2024 Bajaj Chetak Urbane (Rs 1.15 lakh), and TVS iQube (1.34 lakh). It is to be noted that all prices are ex-showroom.

The 450S gets a 2.9kWh battery pack, offering an IDC range of 115km. It has a top speed of 90kmph and can achieve 0-40kmph in a claimed 3.9 seconds. Key highlights of the electric scooter include a seven-inch display with navigation support, emergency stop signal, fall safe, coasting regen, and app connectivity. The optional Pro pack provides access to ride assist, Ather battery protect, Ather stack updates, and Ather Connect (for three years) for Rs 10,000.

Further, Ather has said that it will open 100 showrooms by this quarter to meet the growing demand for its electric scooters, taking its total touchpoints to 350. In terms of charging infrastructure, the company has 1,700 fast charging stations, called Ather Grid, in over 140 cities across India. It now aims to install 2,500 charging stations by March 2024. These charging points are located at popular landmarks in the cities and highways.

The recent reduction in price for the Ather 450S is expected to prompt a shift towards electric vehicles in tier-2 and 3 cities and potentially influence the sales performance of the 450S. This price revision has provided potential customers for an economical electric scooter with an additional choice. Not to mention, this price cut might trigger a competitive environment in the EV space, potentially favouring budget-conscious consumers looking for cost-effective electric scooters.
