Auto sales May 2024: Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata & more
As we enter a new month, carmakers have started releasing their sales performances in May 2024. While Maruti Suzuki has retained its top position in the market, Hyundai and Tata Motors continued to battle for the second spot, where Hyundai managed to win that. On the other hand, Mahindra & Mahindra, Toyota, MG, Kia and others reported marginal growth.
India's largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki, recorded a marginal growth in monthly sales at 1, 44,002 units compared to a sales of 1,43,708 units in the corresponding month of the previous year. Its exports dropped by 34 per cent to 17,367 units from 26,477 units in May 2023.
Tata MotorsTata registered two per cent year-on-year growth to 46,697 units as against 45,878 units sold in the same period of 2023. The EV sales in the domestic and international markets went down by four per cent to 5,558 units from 5,805 units dispatched in May 2023.
Hyundai Motor India
Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL), recorded a sales of 63,551 units in May 2024, reporting 6.63 per cent year-on-year growth compared to 59,601 units in May 2023. The 63,551 vehicles comprised sales of 49,151 units in the domestic market and 14,400 units of exports.
Mahindra & MahindraIndian SUV major, Mahindra, registered a 31 per cent growth at 43,218 units in May 2024 as against 32,883 units sold in the period of the last year. Its total export went up by two per cent to 2,671 units in the previous month.
Kia India
Kia India sold 19,500 units in May 2024, registering a year-on-year growth of over 3.9 per cent compared to 18,766 units in the same month of 2023. It also exported 2,304 units to other countries.
The Sonet facelift emerged as the highest-selling model for the brand in May 2024, with 7,433 units, followed by the recently updated Seltos and Carens with 6,736 and 5,316 units, respectively.
MG Motor IndiaMG reported a six per cent month-on-month growth the previous month over April 2024 at 4,769 units compared to 4,485 units sold in April 2024. Notably, electric vehicles (EV), such as Comet EV and ZS EV contributed 36 per cent to its total sales, with ZS EV achieving highest-ever monthly sales since its market debut.
