Bajaj Auto to unveil ethanol-powered motorcycle in September 2024

After launching the first-ever CNG-powered Freedom 125 in India, Bajaj Auto is now preparing to introduce new alternate fuel motorcycles, with an ethanol-powered motorcycle set to be the first among them. Rajiv Bajaj, CEO of Bajaj Auto, shared these developments in an exclusive interview with CNBC-TV18.

While Bajaj has already committed to releasing one new CNG model annually, Rajiv Bajaj recently revealed that the company will showcase new ethanol-powered motorcycles and three-wheelers next month, with a market introduction planned for the fiscal year 2025.

Bajaj Auto's broader goal is to achieve monthly sales of 100,000 green energy vehicles by the festive season, and these initiatives are steps toward that target. However, it is unclear whether Bajaj will unveil a brand-new ethanol-powered model or update an existing one, such as the Pulsar, which includes a range of models from 125cc to 400cc.

The Freedom 125 CNG boasts a claimed range of up to 330 km and has already attracted 2,000 buyers. Rajiv Bajaj mentioned, "We hope to deliver 8,000-9,000 Freedom 125 CNG bikes in August, and by January, we aim to reach a monthly production of 40,000 CNG motorcycles."
