Beijing Auto Show 2014: Suzuki Alivio Concept unveiled
Suzuki brought the near production ready Alivio concept nee Ciaz to the 2014 Beijing Auto Show. The Alivio is set to replace the current gen SX4 later this year. Maruti Suzuki had earlier brought this concept to the Delhi Auto Show with the moniker 'Ciaz'. The Alivio has been modified to serve as a more practical and cost-effective concept. Suzuki says that the Alivio is a contemporary design as compared to the aging SX4's bold and tall appearance. The Alivio concept gets its styling cues from the Authentics Concept, which was first unveiled at last year's Shanghai Motor Show.
For the Indian market, the car will get the same 1,586 cc petrol engine present in the current SX4 but expected with uprated configurations. The current 1,248 cc multi-jet diesel engine present in the SX4 will continue to be used in the Alivio/Ciaz while the top-end variant may also get a 1.6-litre multi-jet diesel. Gear-box options will be a five-speed manual and a newly designed six-speed automatic.
The chief engineer at Suzuki says that the car's handling has been enhanced and the tuning has also slightly been tweaked to deliver an overall rounded performance. The car has been designed with the driver's and passengers perspectives in mind, so as to achieve a 'confident and comfortable' setting.
The Alivio concept is 4,545 mm long, 1,730 mm wide and 1,475 mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,650mm as compared to the SX4's 2,500mm. The Ciaz/Alivio is expected to launch in India in the last quarter around the festive season of 2014.
