BMW Mini launch Mini Recharged program to convert classic Mini's into EV's

BMW Mini has launched the Mini Recharged program, which will see vintage Mini cars converted into electric vehicles to withstand the test of time.

Traditional principles are combined with future-oriented technology in the conversion of vintage Minis to electric driving. During the Mini Recharged conversion, only reversible alterations to the vehicle's material are done.

The original engine of each Mini is tagged and saved after the conversion so that it may be utilised in the case of a future refit of the classic Mini. A key component of the approach is the careful management of historical heritage. This allows the vintage Mini to be restored to its original state at a later date.

The classic Mini with an electric motor drivetrain can provide a continuous output of up to 122PS and accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in around 9 seconds. The vehicle's energy will be provided by a high-voltage battery that can be charged at a rate of up to 6.6 kW. The range of these converted EVs is expected to be roughly 160 kilometres.

In addition, every electrified classic Mini from Mini Recharged comes with the iconic central instrument cluster, which now shows the drive temperature, selected gear, range, and speed, as well as the drive temperature, selected gear, range and speed.

Sebastian Beuchel, Head of Mini Global Brand Management said "Unique classic Mini models have always been created, including true works of art on wheels. That's why future collaborations are also planned as part of the Mini Recharged programme, allowing well-known artists to express their creativity with specially designed classic Mini models."

Exclusively in the United Kingdom will the unique upcycling of the original Mini will be carried out. Each converted vehicle is assigned a distinct number, making it one-of-a-kind.
