BMW Motorrad India teases new M 1000 XR
After teasing the M 1000 XR prototype globally, BMW Motorrad has listed the newest upcoming the M model on its India website. The M 1000 XR, based on the current S 1000 RR and S 1000 XR, is the third M-spec model following the path of the M 1000 RR and M 1000 R. Interestingly, the firm has already launched the M 1000 RR and M 1000 RR Competition in the country at Rs 49 lakh and Rs 55 lakh (both ex-showroom India).
Designed as a long distance sports bike, the M 1000 XR boasts long-range capability and riding dynamics of a super sports motorcycle for road and racetrack.
Being an independent M model, it packs plenty of carbon fibre components. Plus, there are M-specific brakes with a blue anodised coating that matches with the M logo. They are derived from BMW Motorrad factory racing motorcycles taking a part in the Superbike World Championship. Last but not least, the bike also gets M-spec winglets, offering stability at high speeds. As a result, it weighs about 223kg. In terms of ergonomics, according to BMW, the front-wheel-oriented seating posture provides enhanced control of the motorcycle, which is can be experienced in the Supersport mode.
Also on offer is an M Competition Package as an optional extra, which makes the M 1000 XR even lighter. Not to mention, the motorcycle will also adorn a special paint scheme matching the familiar M livery.
New BMW M 1000 XR: The HeartThe crux of the M 1000 XR is its 999cc, inline four-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine with the BMW's shift-cam âÂ" taken from the S 1000 RR. BMW says that this engine can deliver over 200PS and provide a top speed of 280kmph.

While the on-sale S 1000 XR costs Rs 22.10 lakh (ex-showroom), we expect the M 1000 XR to command a higher premium. The M model is likely to come with a sticker price of 25 lakh or above.
