BMW X5 and X6 get facelift for 2023
BMW has updated the BMW X5 and BMW X6 SUVs for 2023. Both vehicles get a mild update on the inside as well as on the exterior.
The X5 and X6 both get a new-looking grille as part of a mid-life makeover amid a reprofiled front bumper. While the X6 is equipped with the M Sport package, the X5 also gets xLine design cues as standard for the 2023 model year.
A revised lineup of petrol, diesel, and petrol-electric plug-in drivetrains, along with an eight-speed automatic transmission and BMW's xDrive four-wheel drive system as standard, will power the X5 and X6 for the 2023 model year. All of these drivetrains are said to offer improved efficiency and economy.
The 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six-cylinder petrol engine in the X5 xDrive50i and X6 xDrive40i produces 380PS and 520 Nm after modifications to its combustion process, valve management, and ignition system (up 47PS and 70Nm). The X5 xDrive30d and X6 xDrive30d diesel models have a maximum output of 298PS and 670Nm.
A 48V battery is added to the basic six-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines, as well as the V8 petrol engine, providing 12PS and 200 Nm through an electric motor installed on the gearbox.
The top two models in the model lineup, the X5 M50 xDrive and X6 M50 xDrive have also undergone changes, adopting the M60 badge. Despite this, they continue to use the same 4.4 litre, 530PS, and 750 Nm turbocharged V8 petrol engine. The two M Performance variants may now boast to reach 100 kmph in 4.3 seconds.
The older X5 xDrive45e, now known as the X5 xDrive50e, features an updated petrol-electric plug-in hybrid powertrain as well. The 3.0 litre turbocharged six-cylinder petrol engine's output has increased by 27PS to 313PS. The total system power has grown to 490PS thanks to a more potent electric motor positioned on the gearbox that produces an extra 84PS.
The revised X5 and X6 have considerable interior improvements. The 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system and 14.9-inch instrument panel are combined into a single curved display. Additionally, the interior is illuminated by an ambient light strip with 15 configurable colours.
In terms of technology, the optional Driving Assistance Professional Package for SUVs includes Highway Assistant. With this device, drivers may detach their hands from the wheel while travelling at up to 137 kmph on restricted access roadways. Additionally, the instrument cluster has an assisted view mode that displays the cars that the cameras and sensors in the current and neighbouring lanes have identified.
The Parking Assistant Professional technology can replay the vehicle's movements in reverse for up to 200 meters after recording them. This indicates that a motorist may command the vehicle to approach them using a smartphone app called My BMW.
The X5 and X6 facelift will directly rival the Mercedes-Benz GLE and GLE coupe. Both cars are expected to come to India later in the latter half of 2023.
