BMW X7 Dark Shadow Edition revealed, limited to 500 units
BMW has showcased a special version of the BMW X7. Called the BMW X7 Dark Shadow Edition, only 500 units of this limited-run model will be built at the Spartanburg USA plant from August 2020.
The X7 Dark Shadow Edition features the Frozen Arctic Grey metallic from BMW Individual, the brand's high-level personalisation program, for the first time ever in any of its SUVs. This is paired with the High Gloss Shadow Line exterior highlight option which adds gloss black finishes to the window surrounds, B and C pillars and mirrors. A black chrome finish has also been added to BMW kidney grille, air intakes and the tailpipe covers.
This special edition comes fitted with the M Sport package and all the exterior highlights that come with it like different bumpers, air dam and side skirts. There are also gloss black roof rails and 22-inch black matte finish M alloy wheels.
On the inside, there is an M steering wheel and new BMW Individual materials. This is seen in the two-tone Merino leather upholstery, with this the top half of the dash is finished in Night Blue while Black is applied to the lower half and seats. There is Fineline Black with aluminium inlay trim and the centre console gets a gloss black finished with a Dark Shadow Edition logo. The interior can be had in six or seven-seater configuration.
The X7 Dark Shadow Edition sees no mechanical changes and can be optioned with any of the X7's existing engines. In India, the xDrive30d uses a 2,993 cc, six-cylinder in-line diesel engine and puts out 265PS at 4,000 rpm and 620 Nm at 2,000 â€" 2,500 rpm. BMW claims this version of the X7 can get from 0 to 100 kmph in 7s and go on to a 227 kmph top-speed. The petrol has a 2,998 cc motor with 340PS at 5,500 â€" 6,500 rpm and 450 Nm at 1,500 â€" 5,200 rpm. This gets the SUV from 0 to 100 kmph in 6.1s and goes on to 245 kmph. The range-topper is the X7 M50d which features a 3.0-litre, inline-six, quad-turbo diesel engine that makes 400PS and 760 Nm. This version can get from 0 to 100 kmph in 5.4s and go on to a limited top speed of 250 kmph.
Alongside the new X7 special edition, new BMW Individual trim options will be introduced for the standard X7, X6 and X5. They will also include two new paint options, Urban Green and Grigio Telesto metallic. The BMW X7 Dark Shadow Edition will be on sale worldwide, although prices have not been announced yet.
