The facelifted 5 Series sedan is due soon to get a chrome-surrounded kidney grille and redesigned lower air intakes. The rear gets fine, sharp creases and striking lamp assembly. Xenon headlights are standard fitments while adaptive LED headlights and LED fog lamps are available options. The side indicator lights are now integrated in the wing mirrors.

Mechanically, the car will be the same. Expect the 5 Series to debut at the 2014 Auto Expo.

New BMW X5

Recently showcased in Vancouver, the exteriors of the third generation X5 have indeed been revised extensively.

The two-piece tailgate, large chrome-surrounded kidney grilles, LED combined headlamps, well-contoured bumper and bonnet and a finer shoulder line stand witness to changes in the new X5. A key design feature is also the tall glasshouse. At 4886mm in length, 1938mm in width and 1762mm in height, this X5 is 32mm longer, 5mm wider and 14mm taller than the previous gen. The 2933mm wheelbase remains the same.

On the inside, the new X5 gets head-up display, night vision with human and animal detection, lane departure warning and road sign information, a 360 degree surround-view parking assistant and collision warning with an automatic braking function.

Engine options include a turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 petrol that produces 450PS, a 3.0-litre in line six-cylinder diesel that delivers 258PS and 3.0-litre in line six-cylinder diesel that delivers 381PS. Another three engine options could be made available later. These include a turbocharged 2.0-litre diesel that pushes out 218PS, a turbocharged 3.0-litre in line six-cylinder diesel that produces 313PS and a turbocharged 3.0-litre in line six-cylinder petrol that delivers 306PS.

BMW Concept X5 eDrive

The X5 Concept combines the efficient eDrive tech with BMW's own intelligent all-wheel-drive system, xDrive. The car is capable of travelling 30km in electric-only mode. It speeds up to 120kmph and returns efficiency numbers of 31.5kmpl and CO2 emission numbers of 90g/km.

The power behind the concept comes from a four-cylinder combustion engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology and a 70kW electric motor which sources its energy from a high-voltage lithium-ion battery.

Power is sent to the wheels through the xDrive system, so it has the abilities of a standard X5. It gets three driving modes too, depending on requirements and situation â€" the intelligent hybrid drive option for a balance between performance and efficiency; pure electric for emission-free driving; or safe battery mode to maintain battery charge.
