Car sales April 2021: Toyota India sales slide by over 35 per cent
After some record braking numbers in the past few months, Toyota Kirloskar Motors has seen a significant 35.85 per cent in April 2021 as compared to the month before. The Japanese carmaker sold 9,622 units the past month against 15,001 units sold in March 2021. For the same period last year, the company had registered no sales, same as its rivals given the complete nationwide lockdown in April 2020.
Toyota's partnership with Suzuki has worked well for the firm in India, with rebadged Maruti offerings like the Toyota Urban Cruiser and Glanza giving it a foothold in the mass-market segment in the country. This dip comes as a recent of the resurgent COVID19 pandemic in the country. The company says that while it has managed to fulfill pending orders through its inventory, the partial lockdowns across states has widened the gap between wholesale and retail sales. This has also impacted logistics.
Toyota's latest offering is the Urban Cruiser, a mildly reworked Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. This means the K15B 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol with 105PS and 138Nm finds its way here too. This is paired with a five-speed manual and four-speed torque-convertor automatic. The Urban Cruiser gets the 48V mild-hybrid set up for the AT versions just like the Maruti. Fuel efficiency for the manual is rated at 17.03 kmpl, while the automatic returns 18.76 kmpl.
The Urban Cruiser can be had in three grades or variants and this is what you get with each of them. Prices for the Toyota SUV start from Rs 8.50 lakh, going up to Rs 11.35 lakh for the top-spec version.
