Car sales Aug 2023: Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata, and more
Carmakers in India have released their monthly sales reports for April 2023. Most of them, including Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Kia, Toyota, Tata Motors, have registered a rise in year-on-year sales, while some manufacturers have reported a drop in month-on-month sales. Here is a quick glance at the auto sales report for the previous month.
Maruti Suzuki SalesThe overall domestic sales of India's largest passenger vehicle manufacturer stood at 1,56,114 units in August 2023 compared to 1,34,166 units sold in the same month of 2022. It exported 24,614 units in the previous month as against 21,481 units dispatched in August 2022. Overall, Maruti sold 1,89,082 units in August 2023, reporting the highest-ever monthly sales.
Tata Motors Sales
Indian automaker Tata Motors reported a 3.5 per cent drop per cent in its total monthly domestic passenger car sales in August 2023. The brand sold 45,513 units, including electric vehicles (EVs), in the last month, compared to 47,166 units in August 2022. However, the international business of the manufacturer grew 127 per cent to 420 units from 185 units in the same period of the previous year. In terms of overall EV sales, Tata sold 6,236 vehicles in August 2023, witnessing a 54.9 per cent growth as against the sales of 4,026 units in the same month of 2022.
Hyundai SalesHyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) domestic sales stood at 53,830 units, reporting a 8.72 per cent year-on-year growth compared to 44,001 units sold in the same month of 2022. In comparison, it sold 50,600 units in March 2023. The South Korean automaker dispatched 17,605 units in the previous month, witnessing 38.62 per cent growth as against 12,700 units exported in August last year.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor recorded highest-ever monthly domestic sales of 22,910 units, reporting a 53 per cent growth from 14,959 units sold in August 2022. It had registered its previous best monthly sales in July 2023, where the brand sold 21,911 units. Further, the carmaker exported 1,940 in the last month.
Mahindra SalesThe total sales of Mahindra in August 2023 stood at 37,270 units, which is the highest-ever monthly sales of its SUVs, reporting a 26 per cent growth compared to 29,516 units sold in the same period of the previous year. The carmaker saw a 17 per cent decline in its export from 2,912 units of August 2022 to 2,423 units in the last month.
MG SalesMG Motor India recorded a 10 per cent growth in domestic sales at 4,185 units sold in August 2023 compared to sales of 3,823 units in the same period of 2022. The carmaker had sold 5,012 units in July 2023.
