Car sales February 2021: Hyundai India posts 26.4% YoY growth with 61,800 units sold
Hyundai Motor India, the country's second-largest automaker, sold 61,800 cars in the month of February 2021. This is a strong 29 per cent growth in domestic sales over February 2020, when sales stood at 40,010 versus the 51,060 cars sold last month. Exports accounted for 10,800 units, up from 8,900 units in a 14.6 per cent increase. The total sales grew by 26.4 per cent in February 2021, increasing from 48,910 units last year.
The big sellers for this month remained the Hyundai Creta and Hyundai Venue SUVs. The other strong performer for Hyundai has been the new-gen Hyundai i20, which recently also bagged the Indian Car of the Year 2021 award. Other sales hits for the brand have been the facelifted Hyundai Verna and the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios. The company says that the strong sales showing is a result of an all-round improvement in buyer sentiment.
The Creta gets three engine options, which it shares with the similar Kia Seltos. These are a 1.5-litre petrol with 115PS/144Nm, a 1.5-litre diesel motor with 115PS/250Nm and a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol with 140PS and 242Nm. There are three automatic options, aside from a 6-speed manual. There will be a CVT, a 6-speed auto and a 7-speed DCT. The CVT is paired to the N/A petrol, the diesel is available with the torque converter while the turbo-petrol can be had with the DCT. There is no manual turbo option as in the Kia.
