Carberry reveals new India-made Royal Enfield V-twin engine

Australian custom bike and engine builder Carberry Motorcycles revealed its new engine made from fusing two 500cc Royal Enfield Unit Construction Engine (UCE) blocks into a V-configuration. This is the first engine developed and now produced by founder Paul Carberry since the company moved its production and operations to India from Australia last year.

The 1,000cc V-twin, which Carberry Motorcycles estimates to produce 52.92PS power and 82Nm of torque, has been priced at Rs 4.96 lakh (ex-factory). Carberry has begun accepting bookings for the engine, with 50 per cent of the price as deposit.

The new engine is a 55-degree twin fed by dual carburettors, and will be a direct fit to the existing chassis of the previous Carberry builds. The engine is meant for export, existing models which are already homologated, or for display purposes only, it stated. Meanwhile, its new custom-built motorcycle, which will house this engine, is expected to make its debut by the end of 2017.

A fuel-injected version of the engine, compliant with BS-IV emission norms, is also under development and will make its debut along with the motorcycle. It will be produced at the Carberry's India facility in Bhilai, Chhatisgarh, where they set up shop in February 2016. In an online post, the company states that delivery will take between four-seven months from the time of order.

The custom builder is most known for the Carberry Enfield, which utilised the older 500cc cast-iron blocks for its engine along with a custom chassis to withstand the added torque and load. The company had moved operations here after finding an Indian partner, owing to rising raw material and production costs in Australia.
