Citroen Basalt expected to debut in August 2024
Tata Motors is set to bring the Curvv as the first mass-market SUV coupe in India and Citroen is also gearing up to launch their contender in this segment. The Citroen Basalt is expected to make its debut in India in August with its price announcement in the weeks following that. The car has already been spotted undergoing testing on multiple occasions and the production car looks quite identical to the concept car that Citroen has already shown.
The Basalt will have the classic Citroen face with the two-slat grille that builds up to the Citroen emblem, as shown in the concept images and other spy shots. Its larger, chunkier bumper and squared-off wheel arches make the SUV more rugged. Being a coupe, the roofline slopes down and the wrap-around LED tail lamps and chunky silver skid plate at the bottom make the SUV look quite upmarket.
While Citroen has yet to reveal the interior of the Basalt, we expect it to resemble the C3 Aircross with distinctive elements and additional features. The Citroen Basalt will likely have a 10.2-inch touchscreen, a 7-inch digital driver's display, automatic air conditioning, cruise control, and push-button engine start/stop. Its safety features may include up to six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), a rear parking camera, and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).
Citroen has not disclosed detailed powertrain specifications for the Basalt but is anticipated to feature a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine with options for a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. This motor is good enough for 110PS and up to 205Nm.
The Basalt will directly take on the Tata Curvv that is going to be launched soon as well and we expect the Citroen to be priced from Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom). Since the Curvv will be offered in ICE and EV form, it would be interesting to see if we do get an electric Basalt.
