Citroen C5 Aircross production begins in India, engine-gearbox details revealed
Citroen India has started production of its first offering for the Indian market, the Citroen C5 Aircross, at its its manufacturing facility in Thiruvallur, Tamil Nadu. The C5 Aircross will be the French brand's flagship offering and is set to debut in India next month. Production of the SUV begins after prototype put in over 2.5 lakh kilometres in testing across a range of Indian conditions.
Citroen has also revealed details of the C5 Aircross' engine-gearbox combination and features set. The C5 Aircross will be powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine that makes with 181PS and 400 Nm. An eight-speed Aisin-sourced torque converter will be the gearbox option paired with ESC-based drive modes.
Notable features in the SUV are highlighted by Citroen's traditional focus on ride comfort. Seen on the India-spec C% Aircross is the Progressive Hydraulic Cushion equipped suspension system, acoustic windscreen and front windows, memory foam seats, three individually adjustable, reclining and foldable rear seats, a panoramic sunroof, handsfree tailgate operation, engine start/stop, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto/Apple Carplay. Also seen here are a set of driver-assist system that includes blind-spot monitoring and an auto-park feature.
At launch, the Citroen C5 Aircross will be available in 10 Citroen dealerships across India with more outlets to follow. The SUV will go up against the likes of the newly facelifted Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson and top-spec versions of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Tata Harrier and MG Hector.
