Coronavirus impact: MotoGP cancels 2020 German, Dutch and Finnish rounds

More calendar changes due to the coronavirus pandemic: MotoGP has announced the complete cancellation of the German, Dutch and Finnish rounds of the championship. The races at Sachsenring, Assen and KymiRing have now been removed from the 2020 calendar. This follows the partial cancellation of the Qatar GP (not held for MotoGP, but carried out for Moto2 and Moto3) at the start of the season.

Other rounds that have been reshuffled include the Thai GP, the US GP and the Argentina GP, all of which have been pushed to the end of the calendar. The Spanish GP, French GP and Italian GPs have also been postponed, although no new dates for the races have been announced.

The latest news of the cancellation of three European rounds of the championship, follows the decisions taken by the governments of Germany, Netherlands and Finland, to extend the ban on sporting events and large gatherings.

While the next round of the championship is expected to be at Brno, Czech Republic, on August 9, that race might also be axed, given that travel restrictions might not ease by then. If the MotoGP season does run in 2020, a 10-race calendar seems likely.
