Datsun to launch redi-GO in India on June 1, 2016
Datsun unveiled the redi-GO in India on April 14, 2016. Based on the CMF-A platform that underpins the Renault Kwid, the redi-GO is pitched as a compact urban crossover. It will compete with the likes of the Renault Kwid and the Hyundai Eon. The Datsun redi-GO will be officially announced on June 1, 2016 in India.
Unlike some other cars, the Datsun redi-GO borrows heavily from the concept car that was showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo. It has a tallboy design paired with a muscular profile. The stretched headlights and the generic grille look impressive. It also manages to look better than the Datsun GO and GO+. While Datsun is trying to project it as a crossover, it clearly is a hatchback with faux bash plates. The rediGO will come with 155/80 section tyres fitted on 13-inch steel rims. Datsun claims that the ground clearance will give most SUVs a run for their money.
The interior of the Datsun redi-GO is an improved version of that on the GO. It comes equipped with an audio unit that can play compact discs and MP3 files. Unlike the GO, the redi-GO gets conventional seats for five occupants.
Powering the Datsun redi-GO is a 800cc motor paired to a five-speed manual transmission. Datsun didn't reveal any plans of launching the redi-GO with AMT or the new 1.0-litre engine. Both of these were showcased on the Renault Kwid at the 2016 Auto Expo. The prices of redi-GO will start below that of the Renault Kwid considering the positioning of the Datsun brand in the Renault-Nissan alliance.
