E-Class LWB most popular amidst 65 per cent sales jump for Mercedes-Benz India in 2021
Mercedes-Benz has delivered 4,857 new cars in the first half of 2021. This is a significant 65 per cent increase over last year's 2,948 units in the same period, although fewer restrictions in the second wave may be another contributing factor.
The recently facelifted Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB continues to be the best-selling model for Mercedes-Benz India, closely followed by the Mercedes-Benz GLE SUV. The new generation of entry-level models launched this year, the Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine and the Mercedes-Benz GLA SUV, have also contributed to increased sales. The recent spate of launches in the higher reaches of the line-up, the Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 and the new-generation S-Class, have been very well received too. The AMG sub-brand continues to remain popular, with more locally manufactured models being added to the lineup.
Another development in 2021 for Mercedes-Benz has been the continued growth of online sales. Over 25,000 sales leads were generated online and 35 per cent of the total sales during the second wave lockdown months of April-May. Through the first half of 2021, the share of online sales stood at 20 per cent.
The company has launched 8 of its promised 15 new models for 2021 already. Following the new-gen S-Class, the next launch for India will be the facelifted Mercedes-AMG E 63 S alongside which the E 53 will also be introduced in the Indian market for the first time. Also expected later in the year are more EVs led by the Mercedes EQS, the Mercedes-Maybach S Class and the new generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class.
