EICMA 2015: Yamaha unveils the 2016 XSR900
Yamaha introduced the new 2016 XSR900, today, at the EICMA 2015, its take on retro cum modern motorcycle design. Drawing influence from Yamaha's classic "XS" series of motorcycles, the XSR900 features minimal body panels, allowing you to gawk at the gorgeous twin spar aluminium frame. The headlamp is styled in the old-school fashion house (keeping in line with the theme). The tail lamp is a round LED unit that also adds to the charm of the Yamaha.
The Yamaha XSR900 is powered by a 847cc liquid-cooled, in-line 3-cylinder, DOHC, 4-valve-per-cylinder engine, based on the FZ-09 street naked and the FJ-09 sport tourer. The six-speed gearbox is borrowed too but the XSR900 gets  assist and slipper clutch that reduces effort at the lever and prevents wheel hop during aggressive downshifts.
The Yamaha XSR900's narrow all-aluminum frame with sport-oriented geometry and adjustable front and rear suspension offers light and nimble handling, says Yamaha. Ride-by-wire YCC-T engine control, adjustable D-MODE throttle response and an adjustable Traction Control System allows the rider to make the most of the engine's potential.
The XSR900 will be available in two distinctive colours, Matte Gray Aluminum and the 60th Anniversary Yellow. The Matte Gray Aluminum colour, the aluminum fuel tank covers are hand-buffed by skilled craftspeople, while for the 60th Anniversary colour the aluminum fuel tank covers are painted in yellow-and-black Yamaha racing livery.
Sadly, Yamaha may not introduce the motorcycle in India but surprises are always welcome, are you listening Yamaha India?
