EICMA 2018: Ducati Panigale V4R unveiled, weighs 165kg makes 234PS!
The EICMA 2018 is the biggest and the most important automobile show when it comes to upcoming two-wheelers. Ducati took it as a platform to showcase their latest in cutting edge performance track loving machine called the Panigale V4 R. Going by what Ducati mentions in the official release, the Panigale V4 R is the pinnacle of their engineering efforts. It was already known that the the new Desmosedici Stradale V4 is a 4-cylinder and is very similar to the MotoGP engine. With the Panigale V4 R, Ducati has made a machine that brings all the goodness of the World SBK Championship racing motorcycle to production form.
The naturally aspirated 1,103cc engine makes 214PS in the Ducati Panigale V4. However, in the Panigale V4 R, the 998cc Desmosedici Stradale R produces 221PS at 15,250 rpm which is 2,250rpm more than that of the standard V4. This engine generates 112.4 Nm at 11,500 rpm. Ducati mentions that the Desmosedici Stradale R comes with lightened internal components that help the it reach 16,500 rpm in sixth gear. Additionally, one can opt for the full-racing exhaust Ducati Performance by Akrapovic that raises the power output to 234PS at 15,500 rpm and the torque rating to 119Nm at 11,750 rpm.. The engine powering the V4 R is also seen on the Ducati Desmosedici GP race machine. The reduction in displacement was done by keeping the bore size of 81 mm unchanged, whereas the stroke has been changed to 48.4 mm. This is a result of the new steel forged crankshaft that rotates on main bearing shells and maintains the 70 degree offset layout of the crank pins.
In terms of design, the Ducati Panigale V4 R comes with a new windscreen that has been placed higher than the one on the standard V4. This helps give better channelise the air flow in a better way. Additionally, the Ducati Panigale V4 R comes equipped with aerodynamic appendices or winglets that have been derived from the one used on the GP16 bike. This along with the updated design of the fairing, according to Ducati, has increased the vertical load on the wheels that results in stability during braking, corner entry and cornering.
The Ducati Panigale V4R comes equipped with traction control, data analyser with GPS and multimedia system, launch control, wheelie control, Bosch cornering ABS, quickshift, slide control and engine brake control.
