Euisun Chung appointed as Chairman of Hyundai Group - Hyundai Motor Company, Kia Motors Corporation and Hyundai Mobis Co.
The Hyundai Motor Group has recently announced the appointment of Euisun Chung as the Chairman, elevating him from his previous role as Executive Vice Chairman. He takes over the new responsibility from Mong-Koo Chung who had expressed his wish to move on and asked Euisun Chung to lead the Group's future growth and innovation beyond the current challenges. Mong-Koo Chung is now the Honorary Chairman of the Group. The Hyundai Motor Group consists of three entities, Hyundai Motor Company, Kia Motors Corporation and Hyundai Mobis Co, the members of which have unanimously chosen Euisun Chung to lead the group.Â
Chung's contribution to the group includes a turnaround of Kia Motors' business during his tenure as President, leading the growth of Hyundai Motor amid the global financial crisis and successfully launching the luxury brand Genesis as Vice Chairman.
Taking over his new role, Euisun Chung presented a map for the group's direction ahead, focussed on customers, humanity, future, and social contribution. "All of our goals and efforts must be customer-centric. The first step to customer happiness is to enable them to focus on their own lives through the perfect quality of our products and services. For the free movement and prosperity of humanity, we will develop the world's most innovative and reliable autonomous driving technology, offering entirely new mobility experiences" commented the new Chairman.
In an official statement, the group states that it will continue to grow its market leadership in various fields, including autonomous driving, electrification, hydrogen fuel cell, robotics and Urban Air Mobility (UAM). In March this year, Hyundai and technology major Aptiv completed the formation of their 50/50 autonomous driving joint venture, which will provide mobility services to different regions in the world.
Chung also added, "Our world-class hydrogen fuel cell technology will be used not only in automobiles but also in various fields, as an eco-friendly energy solution for the future of humanity. We will also realize the future of our imagination through Robotics, Urban Air Mobility (UAM), Smart City and other innovations. These groundbreaking advancements will offer a higher plane of life experiences for humanity."
