Exclusive: 2017 Nissan Micra Active to be priced at Rs 5.01 lakh
Nissan will be launching the new Micra tomorrow. However, don't get your hope high as it is not the new-generation Micra that was unveiled globally last year. Instead, Nissan has added a couple of cosmetic updates to this hatchback. The design and features additions have been introduced primarily in the Micra Active while the regular Micra too receives minor tweaks. The 2017 Nissan Micra Active will be priced around Rs 5.01 lakh for the XL trim, Rs 5.32 lakh for the XV trim and Rs 5.81 lakh for the XV safety trim. The 2017 Micra XV CVT is expected to be priced around Rs 7.40 lakh, all prices ex-Mumbai.
The 2017 Nissan Micra Active now comes in new sunshine orange shade that was previously seen in the regular model. In terms of design, the 2017 Micra Active largely retains most of its traits in the front and side profiles. The only addition is the 'follow me headlamps' that remain on for a certain duration. The rear profile gets an update in the form of new combination lamps and sportier bumper, making it look comparatively better than the previous iteration. Also, it borrows heavily from the Renault Pulse hatchback. The 2017 Micra doesn't get any substantial updates in the exterior design.
Inside, the lines and cabin design of the 2017 Nissan Micra Active have been left unchanged. However, to make it look upmarket, Nissan has opted for an all-black dashboard with premium piano-black finish. The steering wheel is all-new and now houses controls to operate Bluetooth telephone and entertainment options. Additionally, it comes equipped with a 2-DIN audio system with Bluetooth, aux-in and USB connectivity and rain-sensing wipers along with automatic headlights. The top-of-the-line XV Safety trim comes with height-adjustment feature as well. The 2017 Micra Active also comes with speed sensing door locks that automatically lock the doors when the vehicle crosses 10kmph. In terms of safety, the Nissan Micra comes with driver airbag as standard while the top-end XV Safety comes with both driver and passenger airbags. In addition, it features engine immobiliser and ABS with EBD.
The 2017 Nissan Micra Active continues to be powered by a 1.2-litre petrol motor that makes 68PS at 5,000rpm and 104Nm of torque at 4,000rpm, whereas the regular Micra makes use of the same motor that produces a higher output of 77PS.
While the Micra has not been one of the bestsellers for Nissan in India, we believe such cosmetic updates will help bring in a certain level of newness in the hatchback. We, at OVERDRIVE, had also learnt that the new-generation Nissan Micra will not be manufactured in India owing to higher manufacturing cost.
