Ford EcoSport boasts 30,000 bookings in two weeks
Sales of the Ford EcoSport seem to be standing up to the hype. If numbers are anything to go by, the EcoSport could be regarded as one of the most successful car launches in India. It has garnered a demand of 30,000 units in a matter of just two weeks.
The waiting period for the EcoSport is already at 6 months now and constantly growing. "Ford India is working hard to optimize deliveries and reduce the waiting time for delivery," said Ford.
"We had high expectations of the Ford EcoSport and the unabated response post the launch has been truly gratifying. Consumers are appreciating the value-for-money proposition that we are offering in the EcoSport's compelling and smart package. The Ford India team is working closely with the suppliers at our Chennai facility to enhance output of the EcoSport to reduce the waiting period and to meet the high demand," said Joginder Singh, president and managing director, Ford India.
Ford India has invested $142 million at its Chennai plant to manufacture the EcoSport. It is also investing $1 billion to set up its second production facility at Sanand that will be operational by 2014. The plant will have an installed output capacity of 2.4 lakh vehicles and 2.7 lakh engines annually. With completion of the Sanand plant in Gujarat, Ford India will have a total installed capacity of 4.4 lakh vehicles and 6.1 lakh engines every year.
The EcoSport was launched on June 26 with its entry-level variant priced at INR 5.59 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi). It is offered in 10 variants within four trims, has three engine options in manual and an automatic transmission (petrol) option.
