Ford Ranger Raptor spotted undisguised in India ahead of 2021 launch
We recently brought you news that Ford India is expected to launch the Ford Ranger Raptor in India sometime in 2021. The performance 4x4 pick-up will be brought in under the 2,500-unit homologation exemption for car-makers, along with the Focus and Focus ST. Now a set of photos have emerged that show the Ranger Raptor doing the rounds undisguised, possibly for dealer or customer clinics.
Developed by Ford Performance the Ranger Raptor is a heavily revised derivative of the standard Ford Ranger pickup, itself a variation on the familiar Ford Endeavour. Specific to the Raptor is a reinforced chassis and a unique chassis set-up geared towards high-speed off-roading. The rear suspension has been replaced with a new coliover arrangement with an integrated Watt's linkage for better lateral stability. The shock absorbers are supplied by Fox, now 63.5mm wide, and offer variable damping while being supported by aluminium control arms. Uprated brakes, a 60 per cent thicker bashplate and specially developed BF Goodrich 285/70 R17 tyres are other highlights.
These additions allow the Ranger Raptor a 283 mm ground clearance and 850 mm wading depth. The 4x4 pick-up has a 32.5-degree approach angle, with ramp-over and departure angles of 24 degrees. The Ranger Raptor is powered by the 2.0-litre Ecoblue diesel in its twin-turbo guise, making 213PS and 500 Nm while being paired with the 10-speed torque converter. Aside from the usual drive modes on the Endeavour and Ranger, the Raptor adds a Baja mode that allows for high-speed off-roading.
Visually differentiating the Ranger Raptor is a unique grille inspired by the F-150 Raptor, a frame-mounted front-bumper system with new foglamps and air curtains, flared fenders to allow for more rugged off-roading, new side steps to prevent rock spray and a rear bumper with an integrated two bar. On the inside, there is a bespoke steering wheeler with an on-centre marker, magnesium paddle shifters, blue stitching, leather accents and Raptor badging.
The Ford Ranger Raptor is expected to be significantly more expensive than the Ford Endeavour, possibly around Rs 70 lakh, and should launch by the first quarter of 2021.
