Ford recalls Figos and Classics in India for issues with RTB and PAS
In one of the biggest recalls in the Indian market, Ford India has initiated a recall for around 1.66 lakh units of its Figo hatch and Fiesta Classic sedan to look into issues with the Rear Twist Beam (RTB) and Power Assisted Steering (PAS) hose. It may also be noted that Ford had earlier recalled 1.28 lakh Figos and Classics for the very same reason albeit from a different batch in December last year.
The recall will impact different batches of Figo and Classic models manufactured between January 2010 and June 2012. The company has said, in case of the RTB issue, 1,09,469 Ford Figos and 22,453 Classics from the January 2011-June 2012 timeline will need inspection. Part replacements may not be a necessity. In the PAS case, 30,681 Ford Figos and 3,418 Classics from the January 2010-August 2010 and March 2011-November 2011 timelines will need inspection and replacements, if necessary.
The RTB issue can be made out from an abnormal noise from the car's rear. This issue, if un-addressed could result in bad ride quality and affects handling. In some cases, there may be also issues with the braking eventually leading to the vehicle having to be towed. Â The PAS issue is a potential oil-leak in the hose and resultant fumes. In extreme cases, the power steering fluid could come in contact with the vehicle's exhaust components, thereby creating a hazardous fire situation.
Customers will first have to locate their 17 character vehicle identification number (VIN) which is located under the driver's seat below the mat. Another alternative is checking the RC book of the car. They can then use the Ford toll-free helpline 1800-419-9889 or Ford India website to proceed as instructed. The customer's nearest Ford dealer will be responsible for the recall exercise.
"This is to ensure the safety and satisfaction of our customers by inspecting and replacing any potentially affected parts as required. Ford India will continue to drive this service initiative through its authorised dealers,"Â said Ford.
