Fourth-gen Skoda Octavia India launch on June 10
After a slew of spy shots and leaks, Skoda India has finally confirmed the launch of the new Octavia on June 10. Fourth-gen Skoda Octavia will only offer gasoline propulsion as Skoda and Volkswagen have decided not to sell diesel-engined cars for the time being. The new Octavia is based on the revised MQB platform and boasts larger dimensions than before.
The new Skoda Octavia features a new front grille flanked with narrower LED headlights with signature LED DRLs. The understated elegance is retained with the new Octavia and the smooth flowing lines lend it a chiselled stance. The new Octavia measures 4,689 mm in length that is 22 mm longer than its predecessor and the width is also increased by 15 mm. Skoda will launch the Octavia Sportback in India whereas foreign markets also get Combi and Scout derivatives.
The interiors of the new Octavia features the large and intuitive 10.25-inch freestanding infotainment system and Skoda's digital instrument cluster. The L and K model will also feature a two-spoke steering wheel and uniquely designed alloy wheels. The new Octavia will also feature shift-by-wire technology as the stubby gear selector can be seen in the spy shots. The new Octavia will offer a spacious and comfortable rear seat experience thanks to the added width and length.
As we stated earlier, Skoda and Volkswagen have decided not to offer TDI power in India. Hence, the new Octavia will come with a 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine that will produce 190PS and 320 Nm. The engine will come mated to a 7-speed DSG gearbox as standard and Skoda may also offer the 1.5-litre TSI option at a later date. Skoda is expected to price the new Octavia aggressively as the executive-sedan space isn't left with a lot of contenders. The only direct rival to the new Octavia is the Hyundai Elantra that will soon receive a generation change in India.Â
