General Motors India begins exports to the Mexican market

General Motors India rolled out its first export model, the Beat, for the Mexican market from its Talegaon factory in Pune. The small car is set to go on sale in Mexico by December 2015. The company announced that the a large chunk of exports will be directed to the Mexican market.

Speaking about the new step, Arvind Saxena, president and managing director of General Motors India said, "In keeping with our commitment to the Make in India programme, we are proud to produce exciting Chevrolet vehicles for the Mexican market. Exports will be an important and ever-growing part of our business. This is part of GM's strategy to make India a global export hub."

The company began exporting vehicles from its Talegaon factory in September, 2014 and exported 1,000 cars. The company plans to raise that figure to 19,000 cars this year. Arvind Saxena also said that Chevrolet is in the process of identifying other export markets for efficient utilisation of production capacity.

General Motor's Talegaon facility has an annual production capacity of 1.3 lakh cars and plans to expand that to 2.2 lakh cars by 2025.

NEW DELHI â€" General Motors India today announced the rollout of the first Chevrolet Beat for export to Mexico. Vehicle shipments to its second major export market will commence next month from GM India's state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Talegaon, Maharashtra. Sales of the mini-car in Mexico are scheduled to begin in December 2015. "In keeping with our commitment to the Make in India program, we are proud to produce exciting Chevrolet vehicles for the Mexican market," said Arvind Saxena, president and managing director of GM India. "Exports will be an important and ever-growing part of our business. This is part of GM's strategy to make India a global export hub." The Chevrolet Beat is available in more than 70 markets around the world, primarily as the Chevrolet Spark. Chevrolet has sold more than 1 million Sparks and Beats worldwide. GM India began vehicle exports to Chile from its Talegaon facility in September 2014. It exported approximately 1,000 vehicles last year and is targeting exports of 19,000 vehicles this year. "We are looking to identify additional export markets," said Saxena. "This will help drive capacity utilization at our Talegaon facility." During her recent visit to India, GM CEO Mary Barra announced table billion in new investment in the market, including exports. The Talegaon facility, which currently has a production capacity of 130,000 vehicles annually, will increase its base capacity to 220,000 vehicles by 2025.
