General Motors starts vehicle exports from India

A few months after the announcement that GM India will begin exporting vehicles to other countries, the company has now started dispatching cars for Chile. The first batch bound for the South American nation, consisting of 140 Chevrolet Beats, left from the Mumbai Port Trust on September 25.

The Beat cars that are being exported are manufactured at GM's Talegaon plant. The company hopes that this move will help utilise the facility's annual production capacity of 1,70,000 vehicles.

The Chevrolet Beat is available with petrol and diesel engine options and comes with only a manual transmission option. GM even displayed a refreshed version of the car at this year's Auto Expo.

"The first shipment of Chevrolet Beats demonstrates our commitment to make our India-built products available in global markets. We will continue to ship models to Chile on a monthly basis.", said GM India president and managing director, Arvind Saxena.
