Gravton Quanta launched at Rs 99,000 in Hyderabad

Hyderabad-based start-up, Gravton Motors, has launched its first electric two-wheeler - the Quanta - at the introductory price of Rs 99,000 in Hyderabad.

The Quanta is an all-electric step-through that is powered by a 3.6kW BLDC hub mounted motor. Its performance is said to be on par with a 100cc ICE motorcycle. The company claims that the vehicle's removable 3kWh lithium-ion battery, which sits in its specially designed 'rib cage' frame, is capable of running a 150km on a single full charge. The battery is said to take approximately three hours to come to a complete charge, but this duration can be halved using the optional fast charger offered by the company. What we find highly intriguing here, is the fact that Gravton claim that the Quanta's swap-friendly chassis can accommodate multiple batteries at a time, which can bump up the vehicle's range up to 320km.

In terms of features, the Quanta gets a telescopic fork and twin shock absorbers, 17-inch allow wheels with disc brakes on both ends, an all-LED lights setup, a digital instrumentation panel, three ride modes (eco, city and sport), and it's even capable of linking up to your smartphone via an app to provide roadside assistance, service reminders and more. The company say that most of the Quanta's components have been designed and made in India, including the motor and controller unit, while the battery pack has been imported from abroad.

As of this point of time, the Quanta can be bought in Hyderabad with Gravton planning on expanding to - and launching its electric two-wheeler in - other cities in the near future. The price of the Quanta is expected to rise to around Rs 1.2 lakh soon, but is expected to drop right back down once the company are deemed fit and in alignment with the FAME-II scheme.

Gravton Motors claims to currently have a production capacity of 2,000 units per month. The company has also said that it intends on selling around 5,000 units of the Quanta this year and 18,000 units by the end of 2022.
