Hike in petrol and diesel prices continue, enters tenth consecutive day
There seems to be no relaxation in the hike of petrol and diesel prices, as it enters the tenth consecutive day. As per today, you have to shell out 47 paise per litre more for petrol and 57 paise per litre for diesel. The latest fuel prices in Delhi are Rs 76.73 per litre for petrol and Rs 75.19 per litre for diesel, while the same at the financial capital Mumbai is Rs 83.62 per litre for petrol and Rs 73.75 per litre for diesel. In all these days of continuous hike, the cumulative increase in petrol and diesel prices are Rs Rs 5.47 and Rs 5.80 per litre respectively.
Between March 16 to June 6, Oil companies across the country had frozen the price hikes. As a measures to counter the losses due to the ongoing pandemic, the Government had hiked the excise duty on both petrol and diesel prices, by Rs 10 per litre on petrol and Rs 13 litre on diesel. Initially, the oil companies such as Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL), Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd (BPCL) and Indian Oil Corp (IOC) had absorbed the hike, however, from June 7 onward the fuel prices were hiked on a daily basis. The difference in VAT and local taxes imposed on the fuels make them price differently in various parts of the country.
