Honda launches Activa-i compact scooter priced at Rs 44,200 ex-Delhi
Honda now has an answer for those of you who wanted a sleeker but more affordable Activa - the Activa-i which is priced at Rs 44,200 ex-Delhi. This makes it a good Rs 3000 cheaper than the Activa which retails for Rs 47,204. Four colours are available - alpha red metallic, purple metallic, pearl sunbeam white and beige metallic. The Activa-i uses the tried and tested 110cc 8PS mill from the Activa HET and Honda claims a similar 60kmpl fuel efficiency.
So, what's new in the Activa-i? For starters, its a significantly different looking scooter. The biggest impression is that Activa-i looks slimmer than its siblings. The position of the front turn indicators has moved down from the headlamp to the apron.  The side profile look similar to the Hero Pleasure while the rear also gets a fresh design. Honda has given the Activa-i tubeless tyres, a rear hugger fender, combi braking system, a viscous air filter, a maintenance free battery and 18 litres of underseat storage. Ground clearance is 165mm and it weighs in at 103kgs.
Honda says that the Indian scooter market is divided into three segments, Family: which the Activa and Aviator fit perfectly, Moto: the Dio is king here and the third, the Personal Compact segment where the Activa-i is the first entrant. Scooter sales in the last year have increased by 50 per cent and Honda plans to dominate the segment with the new Activa-i.
