Honda sells over one crore Combi Brake System equipped system two-wheelers in India
Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has sold over one crore Combi Brake System (CBS) equipped two-wheelers in India. HMSI first introduced CBS in 2009 and it is very different from ABS. Yadvinder Singh Guleria, senior vice president, sales and marketing, HMSI revealed that every second Honda buyer is choosing to go for the CBS version of their products.
On the automatic scooters equipped with CBS, upon engaging the rear brake lever, the system automatically distributes brake force between the front and rear wheels. On motorcycles too, the front and rear brakes get applied automatically when the rider engages the rear brake lever. However, the front brake is not a part of the system and operates independently. So, when you engage only the front brake lever, brake force doesn't get distributed top the rear wheel.
To ensure safety and prevent the wheels from locking up, the Combi Brake System comes with an equalizer which distributes the braking force proportionately between both wheels. Honda says that their CBS reduces stopping distance and also improves stability while braking.
Keita Muramatsu, president and CEO, HMSI said, "I am proud to share that the Combi Brake System with Equalizer introduced over 30 years ago have brought smiles to over one crore Indians and more. We are committed to introduce innovative advanced technology."
Currently, HMSI offers CBS as an option on all five of its automatic scooter models-Activa 3G, Activa i, Aviator, Activa 125 and the Dio. With respect to motorcycles, HMSI offers a CBS versionof the CB Shine, CB Shine SP, CB Unicorn 160 and the CB Hornet 160R.
