Honda SUV RS concept revealed, previews Creta rival
At the GIIAS Auto Show, Honda has unveiled its new mid-size SUV. The new SUV from Honda will sit beneath the newly launched BR-V and compete against mid-size SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.
The new SUV is deemed to be called the ZR-V.
Honda has taken a relatively conservative approach towards the design of the new SUV. The front grille has a stud-type design that runs up to the bumper and is flanked by slim LED headlights with integrated DRLs. In the production-spec variant, the bottom section of the bumper gets silver skid plates and vertical cut-outs that will largely house the fog lamps.
A modest shoulder line, a rising character line along the flanks, and a strong beltline kink run along the side. The C-pillars are painted in body colour and rise up to meet the black roof, creating the trendy "floating roof" look. The style is completed with full-width "dotted" taillights, a deeply-contoured back bumper, and front and rear skid plates.
Honda has not disclosed any details, but we suspect that the ZR-V will have the same 1.5-litre DOHC i-VTEC engine and CVT as the BR-V. This Honda unit produces 121PS and 145 Nm of torque. Honda is expected to launch a mild-hybrid variant as well, but the chances of that making it to the Indian shores seem extremely slim.
The Honda Sensing suite of active safety technologies, which includes autonomous emergency braking and adaptive cruise control, is also expected to be included. In India, the ZR-V is expected to replace the WR-V, which is based on the Jazz, offering the market a true SUV for the first time.
