Hyundai Alcazar vs Tata Safari vs MG Hector Plus: Engine specifications compared
Hyundai is set to launch the seven-seater iteration of the Creta, the Hyundai Alcazar sometime this month. The Alcazar launch seems to have been postponed with the second COVID19 wave but when the SUV does launch here, it will most closely rival the Tata Safari and the MG Hector Plus.
Hyundai Alcazar vs Tata Safari vs MG Hector Plus diesel engines
The Hyundai Alcazar will come powered by the same 1.5-litre diesel motor as seen in the Creta. It makes the same 115PS and 250 Nm here which puts it at a significant deficit to the Stellantis-sourced 2.0-litre unit seen in both the Tata Safari and the MG Hector Plus. This motor puts out 172PS and 350Nm in both SUVs. The Hector Plus is the only one to not come with a diesel-automatic variant. Incidentally, both the Safari and the Alcazar share versions of the same six-speed torque converter. All three get a six-speed manual option as well.
Hyundai Alcazar vs Tata Safari vs MG Hector Plus petrol engines
The Tata Safari doesn't come with a petrol engine option as of now, although rumours suggest as 1.5-litre turbo is in the works. The MG Hector Plus is already offered with a 1.5-litre turbo petrol that puts out 143PS and 250Nm. MG Motor India also offers a mild-hybrid version of this engine. Bucking the current trend, the Hyundai Alcazar is set to be offered with a new 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol motor. This is a development of the engine found in the Elantra and puts out 169PS and 191 Nm.
As for gearboxes, there is a wide selection on offer here. The Hyundai Alcazar will come with a six-speed manual or a six-speed torque converter while the MG Hector Plus can be had with a six-speed manual, a seven-speed DCT or a newly added CVT.
Hyundai Alcazar vs Tata Safari vs MG Hector Plus prices
Prices for the MG Hector start from Rs 13.86 lakh and go up to Rs 19.81 lakh. The Tata Safari is dearer with its diesel-only engine choice, starting at Rs 14.69 lakh and going up to Rs 21.45 lakh. Prices for the Hyundai Alcazar are not known yet but we expect it to come at a Rs 1 to 1.5 lakh premium over the Creta. This should put it between Rs 11 to 19 lakh.
