Hyundai Motor Group unveils new car air-conditioning technologies
Hyundai Motor Group, makers of Hyundai and Kia cars, has shown three new technologies that will allow the air quality in its car to improve and give passengers are more pleasant space to spend time in.
Three such technologies have been showcased. The first of these is something called After-Blow. This starts to function when the vehicle has been turned off and the condensate(moisture extracted from the air inside the vehicle), starts to drain from the evaporator in the AC system. The After-Blow system works for 10 minutes to dry the evaporator and any condensate leftover in the air passage. During this time, the system also allows outside air to enter, which reduces humidity buildup within the vehicle.
This system automatically switches off if the AC hasn't been used for a long time or if the outside temperature is low. It also doesn't function when it senses the vehicle is running low on battery.
The next development is Multi-Air Mode, which creates a more soothing atmosphere within the vehicle. The volume of air being released remains unchanged but the air is dispersed through the newly added multi-air slots in the driver and passenger seats, along with the normal air vents. This reduces direct air contact and softens the air.
Lastly, there is the Fine Dust Indicator. This is a development of the air quality display already seen in the new Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. Here coloured displays are used to depict the concentration of PM2.5 particles in the air. This begins with blue for a concentration between 0 to 15 units, going up to red for 76 units or more.
Further, this now works automatically with the AC to purity the air in the vehicle with its air-cleaning mode. This mode activates if the level of PM2.5 particles is over 36 units, it sets the fan speed between 3 and 8, switches to recirculation mode and switches on the air-conditioning system. It also prompts the driver to replace air-conditioner filters or to clean contaminated seats and mats, if the air quality doesn't improve after these steps.
These new technologies will be first introduced in the firm's South Korean home market, on certain Hyundai, Kia nd Genesis vehicles.
