Hyundai regains country's second largest carmaker spot, despite 11 per cent cumulative sales dip
After a difficult end to 2021, which saw December sales dip, as well a slip from the second largest automaker in the country, Hyundai Motor India Limited has pulled back with its January 2022 numbers, regaining the second from top manufacturer spot in the country from Tata Motors. With domestic sales at 44,022 units, a 15.3 per cent fall from January 2021 figures, the company's exports have risen a near-equal 16 per cent to 9,405 units for a net dip of 11 per cent. The Hyundai Venue is the company's best-selling car with 11,377 units sold in January, making it the only Hyundai on the list of top 10 best-selling cars (in eighth spot) in India for the month. We expect a boost to come from the launch of the Hyundai Creta facelift that's expected later this year, as well as an updated Hyundai Venue facelift that's just been spotted overseas.Â
Notably, the sales in the start of the new year represent a healthy 36 per cent jump from December 2021 numbers, which stood at 32,312 units moved. The shortage of semiconductors has played a major role in the drop in retail sales, with long waiting periods across the board. On the other hand, Hyundai was once again the country's largest exporter of SUVs in 2021, with the Hyundai Creta coming in as the most exported SUV last year, with 32,799 units shipped overseas out of a total of 42,238 SUVs including the Alcazar and Venue.Â
