Hyundai unveils the souped-up Elantra N with up to 290PS
Hyundai had teased the Elantra N some months back and we were holding our horses. The new Elantra already had a very cutting-edge design that seems fast even when standstill and with the added performance, it's a genuine sports sedan. Powering the 2021 Hyundai Elantra N is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-banger that puts out 280PS and 393 Nm of twisting force. The power is channelled via a wet-type 8-speed DCT that is complimented with stubby padel shifters while it can also be specced with a 6-speed stick shift with auto rev-matching.Â
The DCT model also offers N Grin Shift as seen on the i20 N that provides a 10PS boost with a push of a button, N Power Shift and N Track Sense Shift. The Hyundai Elantra N comes packed with e-LSD to pull you out of the corner faster, a variable exhaust system with pops and bangs and launch control for earth-twisting launches. With the launch control, the Elantra N sprints from nought to a ton in 5.3 seconds whereas the top whack is 250 km/h.
Managing the grip are the super-sticky Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres shod on 19-inch rims. Spotting a Hyundai Elantra N would be an easy task, thanks to sporty bumpers, side skirts, dual-pipe exhausts and a subtle lip spoiler. On the inside, the layout is similar to the Elantra but with a prominent sprinkle of sportiness. The steering features N configurable buttons and the large infotainment hosts data like turbo boost pressure, power and torque on demand and more. Hyundai is expected to debut the N brand in India with the i20 N-line later this year, with full-blown N models like the Elantra N further away.
