Hyundai has given the Xcent the same engines as the Grand i10 àâÂ" the newly developedàsecond generation 1.1-litre U2 CRDi diesel and theà1.2-litre Kappa dual VTVT petrol.
The 1.1-litre U2 CRDi pumps out 72PS at 4000rpm and 180.4Nm between 1750 and 2500rpm with a mileage of 24.4kmpl.
Hyundai says they have worked on the Xcent's diesel engine to achieve enhanced performance, 13 per cent more torque and better mileage.
The 1.2-litre KappaÃÂ petrol delivers 83PS of power at 6000rpm and ÃÂ 111.8Nm of torque with a claimed fuel efficiency of 19.1kmpl.
Both the engines are paired to a 5-speed manual transmission with the petrol getting the option of a 4-speed auto as well. The automatic delivers an ARAI approved fuel efficiency of 16.9kmpl.
Hyundai claims to have improved the turbocharger in the diesel Xcent for better throttle response and acceleration. The auto option will be available on in the S and SX trims.
ExteriorsThe Hyundai Xcent has a styling similar to the hatchback on which it is based, the Grand i10. It has the same grille but with more chrome on it. It gets swept back headlamps and wrap-around tail lamps with chrome inserts as well as diamond cut alloy wheels and door handles with chrome highlights. The Xcent's smooth flowing lines on the side converge into a rather stubby boot.ÃÂ While this may not be entirely to our liking, it matches more or less with what the competition offers. The Xcent will come with five colour options such as black, blue, red, silver and blue.
Interiors and featuresInside, the Xcent shares its features list with the Grand i10 save for the inclusion of climate control system and rear AC vents. The music system has Bluetooth, USB and Aux-in compatibility. It also has a 1GB on-board storage capacity. The top end Xcent gets a segment first reverse parking camera and a smart key with push button start.
The Xcent gets dual tone beige and black interiors which are a first in the segment, while the cooled glovebox is a nice touch.
Rear seat passengers have more legroom than the Grand i10 inspite of both the cars sharing the same wheelbase. There is also an arm rest. The boot space has also increased in comparison to the donor hatchback.
ABS is optional on S and SX trims. While driver and passenger airbags are standard on the SX trim, they are not even an option on other trims.
