ICOTY 2025 green car contenders announced

The 20th edition of the ICOTY (Indian Car of the Year) jury round is underway. The nominations have been selected by 20 decorated judges representing esteemed publications which also include Kranti Sambhav, Editor at OVERDRIVE and Rohit Paradkar, Assistant Editor at OVERDRIVE. The panel consist of seasoned experts from esteemed publications that will evaluate the nominations on the basis of key factors such as performance, practicality, frugality, and safety to name a few.

The list of green car contenders includes products like the MG Windsor that has grabbed quite the attention with its unique look and Battery As A Service (BAAS) feature, where the brand has tried to bridge the price parity of an EV and an ICE vehicle. And the Tata Curvv EV, the coupe SUV offering from the company and was highly anticipated in the market. Let's take a look at the vehicles and see what they have to offer, winners will be announced in January 2025.

Tata Punch EV â€" Rs 9.99-14.29 lakh

The Tata Punch EV is offered with two battery packs â€" 25 & 35 kWh packs, the smaller battery pack puts out 81 PS and 114 Nm of peak torque, and the larger battery pack pushes 122 PS and 190 Nm of peak torque. The smaller battery pack claims a range of 315 km and the larger one claims 421 km on a full charge.

MG Windsor â€" Rs 9.99-11.99 lakh

MG launched the Windsor at a very attractive price of Rs 9.99 lakh for the base model and the battery is offered as rental from the company. It houses a 38-kWh battery that makes 136 PS and 200 Nm of peak torque. It also gets a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment unit that can be customized for a vertical or horizontal position

Tata Curvv EV â€" Rs 17.49-21.99 lakh

The Tata Curvv EV is offered with two battery packs â€" a 45 kWh and a 55-kWh battery pack. The larger battery pack claims a real-world range of 400-425 km. The 45-kWh battery pushes 150 PS and 215 Nm of peak torque, at the same time, the 55-kWh battery puts out 167 PS and with the same amount of torque as the 45-kWh battery pack.

BYD e Max 7 â€" Rs 41-53 lakh

The BYD eMax7 houses a 71.8 kWh battery that claims to deliver a range of 530 km on a full charge. It gets features like a massive panoramic glass roof, floating LED headlamps, dragon face design, Vehicle-To-Load (VTOL), wireless charging and ADAS to name a few. The battery powers a front mounted motor that pushes 204 PS and 310 Nm of peak torque. There is a smaller 55.4 kWh battery pack on offer that pushes 163 PS.

BYD Seal â€" Rs 41-53 lakh

The BYD Seal is quite the handsome looking car that is offered with battery pack options â€" a 61.44 & 82.56 kWh battery pack. The larger battery pack also gets AWD and RWD option while the smaller battery pack gets the RWD option. The smaller battery pack pushes 204 PS and 310 Nm of peak torque, while the larger battery pack generates a good 313 PS and 360 Nm of peak torque.

Mini Countryman EV â€" Rs 54.90 lakh

The Mini Countryman EV comes equipped with a 66.4kWh battery pack which is paired with a single front-wheel drive e-motor that generates 204PS and 250Nm of torque. The SUV offers a WLTP-claimed range of up to 462 km. It can be charged from 10-80 percent in 29 minutes using a DC charger.

BMW i5 - Rs 1.20

The BMW i5 M60 draws power from an 81.2kWh battery pack that pushes a total of 601PS and 795Nm of torque. It accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in 3.8 seconds and has a top speed of 230 kmph. The battery can be charged up from 10 to 80 percent in around 30 minutes using a 205 kW DC fast charger. On the WLTP cycle, the M60 xDrive version has a range of up to 516 km.

Mercedes EQS SUV - Rs 1.41 crore

The Mercedes EQS 580 SUV comes with a large 122 kW lithium-ion battery. The company claims a range of 809 km. It is powered by a dual-motor setup that makes 544PS and 858 Nm. This lets it do 0 to 100 kmph in 4.7s and reach a 210 kmph top speed.

Mercedes EQS Maybach â€" Rs 2.5 crore

The Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 electric SUV has an all-wheel drive system powered by two electric motors. It is capable of producing about 658 PS of peak power and 950 Nm of peak torque. The electric SUV has a top speed of 210kmph and can dash from a standstill to 100kmph in 4.4 seconds.
