Say hello to the Benelli TRK 502, the newest adventure tourer in the market. It looks big, rides well and is adept in the corners as well. At Rs 5 lakh ex-showroom there's nothing that comes close to it in terms of sheer value. Now that makes it an interesting proposition. The TRK 502 X is the off-road biased TRK, evident by the larger, 19-inch front wheel, Long travel suspension and tubeless wire spoke wheels. It does have the same chassis and 500cc liquid cooled, parallel twin engine, that develops 47.5PS and 46Nm, but changes to the gearing makes the X, capeable on the trails as well
You can read our in-depth review to know more about the TRK 502 and TRK 502X here.
The TRK 502 is the road-focused TRK
The instrument cluster is pretty basic but displays the necessary information
The shape of the tank is slightly flawed as the top edge extends to the point where you'd want a flat surface to lock your knees on the tank and hold the bike while standing up and riding
ABS is switchable but you need to come to a halt before changing the settings
A 5V/2A USB charging port is standard and is useful to power your phone or any other device
Plastic windscreen extensions do a good job of deflecting headwind. That said, it'll take a bit of patience to clean the area between the screen and the plastic around the headlamps
The adventure correct beak is very Ducati Multistrada but it does enhance the looks of the bike
Dual, 320mm discs with radially mounted calipers offer strong bite but lack progression
LED DRLS are bright and headlamps have good spread and throw
Benelli is offering two panniers and a top box for Rs 70,000, as an accessory
Crash protection is standard on the TRK 502 and 502 X
Unlike the TRK 502X, the TRK 502 has an underbelly exhaust
The TRK 502 is quite capeable in the corners and holds its line quite well. That said, teh top heavy feeling will take a few kilometres to get used to
Both bike are powered by a liquid-cooled, parallel twin engine that develops 47.5PS @ 8,500rpm and 46Nm @ 6,000rpm. It is paired to a six-speed transmission. The motor is refined up to 100kmph but after that vibrations begin to creep in through the tank, handlebars and the footpegs
LED tail lamps and turn indicators are quite bright
Tubular grab rail and aluminium base plate is also standard on both bikes
The 502 X is taller, thanks to the long travel suspension and bigger, 19-inch front wheel
The exhaust end can is also mounted high up, making it easy to cross streams or flooded paths
The TRK 502 X gets tubeless- wire spoke wheels shod with Metzeler Tourance tyres
The fuel tank is quite large and can store up to 20-litres of fuel
The main stand is only available on the X trim
Rubber pads on the footpegs are large and flat enough to rest you feet firmly. They also go a long way in absorbing some amount of the vibrations
