The new generation Mercedes-AMG E 53 has undergone a transformation into a potent plug-in hybrid. Offered in sedan and estate body styles, this new E-Class in the '53' variant can go from zero to 100kmph in just 3.8 seconds.
Powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged straight-six engine, the new E53 retains a familiar powerplant, producing a maximum of 449PS. It collaborates with an electric motor positioned between the engine and the nine-speed transmission inside the gearbox case, capable of delivering up to 163PS and 480Nm of torque independently. The Race Start mode, part of the optional AMG Dynamic Plus package, offers a brief power boost.
The combined output of the new E 53 stands at 612 PS and 750Nm of torque. The top speed is electronically limited at 250kmph, but opting for the AMG Driver's Package elevates the limit to 280kmph for the sedan and 275kmph for the estate. When running solely on electricity, the E 53 versions can achieve a top speed of 140kmph, thanks to the 21.2kWh battery pack providing a range of 100km.
A variety of driving modes cater to different preferences and conditions, with seven modes adjusting powertrain and chassis settings: Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Slippery, Individual, Electric, and Battery Hold. The Battery Hold mode operates the engine and electric motor together to maintain the battery charge level. Now, explore the detailed picture gallery of the new E 53 4Matic+.
