Jeep Cherokee gets a 2.2l Multijet diesel engine in UK
The soon-to-be launched in India, Jeep Cherokee gets a new Multijet diesel engine in the UK market. The new 2.2-litre Multijet diesel motor will be available in two power configurations- 185PS and 200PS and is Euro 6 compliant. A nine-speed automatic gearbox and Active-Drive four-wheel-drive systems are exclusive to this engine. The more powerful 200PS engine can only be ordered with Limited trim while the 185PS will be available in Longitude and Longitude+ variants. Â The new engine replaces the ageing 170PS 2.0-litre motor.
While the Active Drive I system is available as standard for the 2.2-litre engine, only the 200PS version gets the option of the two-speed power transfer unit Active Drive II which complements the Hill Descent control and low range capability. Jeep Cherokee's new 2.2l engine is built in Italy and can do the o-100kmph run in 8.5s and achieve a top speed of 204kmph with the Active Drive I system, according to the company. The claimed fuel efficiency is 21.08kmpl. The Cherokee with the Active Drive II system does the same in 8.7s, achieve 19.68kmpl and attain a top speed of 202kmph.
Along with the new engine, the Jeep Cherokee range receives certain equipments as standard. These include the electric tailgate, rain sensing wipers, electrically adjustable 8-position seat, lumbar adjustment in four ways, automatic headlamps and anti-dazzle mirror. Optional safety features in the new Jeep Cherokee 2.2 Limited edition include Lane Departure Warning Plus, Advanced Brake Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Smartbeam main headlamp dipping function and Full Speed Collision Warning Plus.
